what is
the Coalition
The St. Louis Community Health Worker Coalition (CHWCo)
is the regional backbone and professional organization
for Community Health Workers (CHWs) regionally.
CHWCo centers its strategies on efforts that
strengthen, sustain and scale,
the CHW workforce locally to globally.

Founded by CHWs in 2016 – formalized in 2019 -
the Coalition has emerged as a prominent leader
in the Community Health Worker (CHW) space nationally,
serving as the first non-profit in the state of MO
governed by CHWs
that also provides a direct service arm.

The main functions of the Coalition include:
-
building neighborhood capacity
-
institutionalizing community leadership
-
co-creating equitable decision making practices
-
advocating for long-term sustainability of the CHW workforce
-
providing a safety net for the workforce that keeps us well

As a Coalition, and grassroots agency that works across the socioecological model, we are currently engaged in a variety of initiatives
including social impact and investment, organizational capacity building, clinical-community integration, harm reduction and prevention, health equity outcomes, violence prevention and intervention,
interprofessional practice, and much more.
Ultimately, the St louis CHW Coalition Infrastructure aims to
help transform institutions into racially responsive systems
that promote generational community wellbeing while
simultaneously
building power and cultivating leaders (CHWs)
in the neighborhoods of those same systems.
